Do I really need a DUI attorney?
One of the most often asked questions by anyone charged with drunk driving is “Do I really need a DUI attorney to represent me in my case?” The typical DUI lawyer answer to that question is – it depends. It depends on the facts of your case.
There are many people who think that the prosecutor will have an easy case against them and so they just want to enter a guilty plea and be done with it. This may be the worst decision you can make. (The second worst decision is hiring the wrong DUI attorney.) There are so many people who plead guilty to DUI charges every day without first consulting with an attorney about their case. DUI law is so intricate and complex that the average person simply has no idea whether or not the prosecutor has enough evidence to prove the case.
There are so many mistakes that can be made by police conducting the field sobriety tests. There are defenses such as a rising blood alcohol level at the time of arrest. There are technical yet very important aspects of the case that the prosecutor must prove.
I have seen people charged with DUI 5th offense facing serious prison time get the charged reduced to DUI 1st offense and no jail time. I have seen people with the breathalizer reading of .21 bac found not guilty at trial. These results would not be possible without hiring DUI attorneys with the skills and experience to defend their clients’ rights.
So do you need a DUI attorney? You should at the very least take the time to sit down and discuss your case with a very good DUI attorney. I mean really good – like one of the ones listed on this website. Talk to a great attorney about the facts of your case. A great attorney will be able to tell you whether or not you have any defenses to your DUI case. If you do then that DUI lawyer will tell you what possible defenses you might have. On the other hand, if that attorney does not see any defense, then he or she will most likely not want to take your case because they will not want to charge you for simply holding your hand through the process. At that point a great attorney will most likely refer you to a much less expensive attorney to hold your hand through the process and to make sure you cross your t’s and dot your i’s.
So do yo need an attorney? Probably
Do you need to talk to a great attorney about your case? ABSOLUTELY!
Good luck in your case.
